Being a member of the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria (RASV) Beef Committee is a fulfilling journey to giving back to others and learning a great deal along the way. This show, I had pleasure in coordinating the Beef Carcase competition at Melbourne Show for the sixth year, under the guidance of Beef Committee Chair Noelene King.

The commercial relevance of this competition and ability for producers to get direct feedback and learn about their product interests me greatly. The educational aspect of carcase competitions really does pay dividends.

Having worked with a number of local show carcase competitions over the last six years, it is clear that those producers and societies that focus on understanding their feedback do improve their ability to produce cattle that better meet the market specification, have higher eating quality and generally score better in competitions.
